One is the resolution expressed in the confession of the 18 year old; to make of his life something worthwhile; something that would survive him honourably; justifying his journey on earth. That resolution was tested by circumstances that appeared to reduce it to a pipe dream. Our inspirations, molding our expectations; take account of what we would like the empirical world to look like rather than what it actually is. Thus endlessly, empirical reality denies the validity of out expectations and aspirations. We expect the oracle to give us a clear cut answer; what we get is an enigma, compounding the riddle. What remains is the searching mind, conscious of itself and of the world; seeing , hearing, feeling, thinking and speaking- seeking ultimate reality beyond illusion.

SOILED PONDS.

1.

we went to the river,
to piss in the stream,
to swim with the ducks,
and live the wet dream.
we shat in the marshes,
and bathed in our filth.
we followed the fish trail,

All the big bellied children in the playground huddled close one day and made a pact.

"We cant endure this much longer the taunting and the teasing the beatings and the misery, they have pushed us to the edge and now we must swallow our gram crackers and jump."

and so they fortified the deal with spit laden handshakes.

"tomorrow is the day of reckoning, tomorrow we will be set free! follow me my fellow gluttons, for tomorrow we will make them eat their words and our souls will float as light and weightless as we never were in this life!"

The next day at precisely noon, the playground stood still.

Children bellowed and screamed and after shock, followed silent disbelief and near paralysis.

The big bellied children had gathered in pairs and ate each other that fateful day until just two engorged cacooned beings remained.

One ate the other and collapsed in a great heap, gesticualting lardy human inards from its swollen mouth.

Weeks after the harrowing event and after the final fat martyr was bulldozed away; the playground remained silent.

The children glaced at each other in stoic disbelief, eyes full of accusations and blame.

And it went like this long after.

still unable to speak to one another and mourning, the children began gorging any food they could find and when they couldnt find anymore, they ransacked and stole until all the shelves and cupboards gleamed of emptiness and indigestion.

The children became so obese that they could hardly walk or breathe anymore, with faces full of sadness and bellies full of shit, they waddled without a word into eternity.
Suddenly, teasing the fat kids didnt seem so funny, in retrospect.
